"Myriads water voices” @ the Open-air Water Power Museum and @ the Environment Museum of Stymphalia

2010-10-18: The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) participated in the Pan-Hellenic campaign «Environment and Culture 2010: Myriads of water voices» organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism from October 7 through to October 10, 2010, with events and educational programmes held at its two «water museums», the Open-Air Water-Power Museum in Dimitsana and the Environment Museum of Stymphalia.

At the Open-Air Water-Power Museum, an activity on the theme of «A day at the mill» took place, drawing more than five hundred visitors. Both schoolchildren and the general public had the opportunity to grind corn at the Museum's watermill, make dough and, with the help of Arcadian women, decorate the loaves so as to make the famous traditional «embroidered» bread and, lastly, taste some of the region's traditional dishes, such as the local pancakes (tiganites).

For its part, for the first time since its recent inauguration, the Environment Museum of Stymphalia welcomed the schoolchildren of the region's Primary Schools, who participated in the educational programme «The labours of water». In collaboration with the theatrical group Okypous, these young visitors became the fellow travellers of Iolaos and the enemies of Eurystheus so as to assist Hercules in fulfilling his labours, while at the same time experientially discovering the exhibits related to water and the environment.

Participation in the events and entrance to the two museums over the four-day period of October 7-10 were free of charge for the public.
