Bithynia is an ancient region, situated at the east of Thrace and north-west of Anatolia. The area, which was inhabited by a Thracian tribe, flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman eras. Archaeological remnants of Bithynia's thriving period survive until today.

Centuries later, in the framework of the European Union - Turkey Intercultural Dialogue Museums Component, four regional museums in contemporary Bithynia were united, in order to create a Museums Network, aiming to promote the cultural heritage of Ancient Bithynia. The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation accepted the invitation to participate at the project, as the foreign partner, and to transfer knowledge on museums networking. The exhibition "Bithynia: from the past to the present" is one of the activities that will be realized in the framework of the project "Re-connecting the Bonds Between Archeological Artefacts and Historicity".
