PIOP ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) carries out culture-related activities, which are part of the Piraeus Bank Group's corporate social responsibility. It is a non-profit institution and is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. The chair of PIOP's Board is Mrs. Sophia Staikou. More specifically, the Board of Trustees is presently composed as follows:

In accordance with the Foundation's statutes, the Piraeus Bank covers its operating costs, and also provides funds for an important part of the implementation of its work.
At the same time, due to its noteworthy experience in cultural management and thanks to its highly qualified personnel, the PIOP successfully cooperates with local authorities and Greece's regional administrations towards creating museums and acceding to European funding for certain projects. The Foundation's activities cover the whole of Greece; these activities are structured around the axis formed by PIOP's network of thematic museums, whose reach is constantly expanding and which is a means of effectively and efficiently providing high?quality cultural activities that are accessible to the Greek provinces.

Scientific collaborators
The work accomplished to date by the Foundation has relied, to a large extent, on the services of a multitude of select external scientific collaborators, hailing mainly from research centres and universities, but also from some of the country's largest museums. PIOP, which is responsible for the projects' end result, coordinates and directs the collaborators' work, cooperating with them at all stages of its realization.


 Buildings-premises
The Foundation's headquarters are situated in the historical centre of Athens, in Plaka, where its main services are housed. The initial core of the neoclassical building at 6, Angelou Geronta Street is one of the oldest remaining Athenian buildings from the time of king Otto's reign (1834-1863). Unfortunately, when the building was acquired by PIOP in 1999, it had already undergone drastic changes, especially in its interior as proved by the two layers of painted ceilings found in a small section of the building's extension. Indeed, these paintings' morphological elements point to an initial alteration carried out in the late 19th or early 20th century (when the building's extension must have been built) and a second one during the years intervening between the two World Wars.
The restored building houses the Director's Office, the Secretariat, the Accounting Services and the Museum, Publications, Research and Promotion Departments, as well as the Foundation's Library, which is open to the public.
The Historical Archives Department is housed in premises of 1,600m² (just over 17,222 ft²) on the ground floor and three basements of the building situated at 72-74, Salaminos Street, in Kallithea. The acquisition of a further 8,000m² (86,111 ft²) on the outskirts of Athens has been scheduled with a view to housing the Foundation's industrial archives. PIOP's Technical Services are housed on the same premises as the Piraeus Bank's Technical Services at 18, Panepistimiou Street.
