2010-06-18: The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation is organizing an exhibition titled «The Wounds of the Stone» featuring works by painter Yorgos Pastakas, to be held at the Tinos Museum of Marble Crafts, in Pirgos. The exhibition will run until October 31, 2010.

Yorgos Pastakas' new exhibition features ten large-scale oil paintings depicting landscapes wounded by human activity: abandoned mines, pockmarked lands, miners' bodies that turned to stone while in full youth and assumed «the shape and the square monotony of the tools they used», bodies that are almost deformed, muscles that «contort themselves ready to explode from pain. And always, in some corner, a fragment of blue sea that evokes freedom and a perpetual flow», horizons promising journeys into the blue, into the light, new acquaintances, other worlds, fishing boats that leave behind them the wounded landscapes and the rusty machinery. The artist takes us on a sea journey, to «beautiful ruins and wounded landscapes that attest to their eternal drama. A great tale for such a small island. And yet, here too, the very same game was played as the one in famous empires and mighty kingdoms.» (Y. Maniotis).
