2009-09-30: The Greek translation of the work by David S. Landes, in now available. The book, a revised and augmented re-edition of the 1969 publication, is a classic reader on the history of the Industrial Revolution in the countries of Western and Northern Europe (original title: The Unbound Prometheus. Technological Change and Industrial Development in Western Europe from 1750 to the Present). The technological inventions and the mechanization of production initiated in Britain in the second half of the 18th century, progressively penetrated into other Western European countries in the 19th century. Strong social upheavals took place in parallel to the economic changes, for instance regarding the place of workmen and the position of manufacturers in the new labour context.
