«A day spent at an olive press of the Hellenistic period»: children produce olive oil at an ancient olive press

25Febr.2009: An original educational programme addressed at Primary School pupils of the 4th, 5th and 6th grades is being organized by the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil (Sparta).

It will take place on the Museum's premises on February 25, 26 and 27, 2009.
Each programme lasts approximately 90 minutes and comprises:
1. A short tour around the Museum's exhibition displays.
2. A role game in the area of the outdoor exhibition, with a reconstruction of how the Hellenistic olive-press worked: the pupils carry and empty out sacks of olives, turn the millstone, load "tsantiles" (straining bags) into the press. They play, improvise, enjoy themselves and learn and, at the game's end, leave with a bottle of olive oil produced "in the ancient manner" as a souvenir for their class.

Participation is by appointment only. To reserve a place, please call Mr. Marinopoulos at the Bank of Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation on (+30) 210.3256.923.
