The Museum of the History of the Mainalon Forest in Chryssovitsi opens its doors with the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation's support

2010-12-19: A new museum, the Museum of the History of the Mainalon Forest in Chryssovitsi, has been added to the cultural map of the Arkadia prefecture after its inauguration on Sunday, December 19, 2010.
After years of efforts and studies, the fire-ravaged Municipality Falanthos managed to rehabilitate the steam-powered State Sawmill of Chryssovitsi, one of the first public wood factories to be established in Greece, and open it to the public under a new guise, that of the Museum of the History of the Mainalon Forest. This was made possible through funding it secured from the THESEUS development programme, the European Leader+ programme, and the use of its own funds.
The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, sensitized to the destruction wrought by the 2007 wildfires in the Peloponnese, joined forces with the Municipality of Falanthos to create the museum. The Foundation offered the Municipality its scientific and administrative support for the work, that of creating a museum according to the high planning and materialization standards of the PIOP Museum Network. The goal of this shared course is to strengthen the cultural reserve and create new poles of local development through the region's cultural and environmental upgrading.
