2011-10-14: The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in collaboration with the creator and inspirerof the exhibition "Myrtis: face to face with the past", University of Athens Associate Professor Manolis Papagrigorakis and his collaborators, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece and the teaching establishment Schinarakis Studies, has implemented the idea of Mr Papagrigorakis' team to create an exhibition that is also accessible to people with sight or hearing impairments. 
To this end, the exhibition has been enriched with a specially designed itinerary, which comprises tactual exhibits, an audio guided tour and descriptions in the Greek and international sign language, and is accompanied by printed material in both Braille and large-print script. In this context, and in collaboration with the Lighthouse for the Blind, PIOP has held seminars for the guarding staff of its Museum Network on welcoming and accompanying the sight-impaired.
It should be reminded that "Myrtis" has already been presented in large museums in Athens, Thessaloniki and abroad, while over the past summer the exhibition was on show at the Marble Crafts Museum in Tinos where it attracted over 15,000 visitors. The reconstruction of the face of a young girl of the 5th century BC, whose skull was brought to light by archaeologist Efi Baziotopoulou-Valavani in a mass grave discovered in the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos, is the result of a lengthy interdisciplinary collaboration.
The "Myrtis" exhibition also inaugurates the collaboration of the Rooftile and Brickworks Museum with the " Athanassakio" Archaeological Museum of Volos, as the latter will host two parallel exhibitions (22/10-31/12) relating to the subject. The exhibitions, which were kindly put at the Archaeological Museum's disposal by Mr Papagrigorakis, are a photographic exhibition on "Myrtis" centred on the history of the excavation and the procedure used to reconstruct the young girl's features, and an art exhibition with works offered by Greek artists. These exhibitions are accompanied by exhibits of the Archaeological Museum: another, anonymous, little girl who was her contemporary (second half of the 5th century BC) from the ancient city of Feres, and who, through the image of her tomb and two ancient funerary steles, "participates" in the exhibition of Myrtis the Athenian.
The exhibition "Myrtis: face to face with the past" will be hosted at the Rooftile and Brickworks Museum N. & S. Tsalapatas from October 14, 2011 through to January 8, 2012. Its inauguration will take place on Friday, October 14, at 19:30.
