The educational programmes @ the Rooftile and Brickworks Museum

2010-09-20: Two new educational programmes are held at the Rooftile and Brickworks Museum N. & S. Tsalapatas.

The first, «Constructing bricks and tiles», is intended for schoolchildren attending Primary and Secondary Schools.

The programme has a duration of roughly 60 minutes. The children are divided into four groups. The first is occupied at the mill, mixing the clay earth with water so as to produce clay. The second operates the machine for cutting bricks: the schoolchildren place the clay mass in the machine, which cuts it into small bricks. The children in the third group try their hand at manufacturing tiles with the factory's logo using the tiling press. The fourth group checks the end products and is encouraged to realize simple constructions using ready-made small bricks.

The second, «The three little pigs go… to the museum», lasts approximately 60 minutes and is aimed essentially at Kindergarten pupils. Using the well-known tale as a starting point, the children are pleasantly initiated to the technology of a different era. The programme comprises recognizing and describing materials, storytelling, assembling a puzzle, drawing, a theatrical game and other activities suitable for this age group.
