With olives and gum mastic, PIOP travels to faraway China

2010-08-27: Within the framework of its international presence in the sector of culture, the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) was invited to participate in the World Expo 2010 being held in Shanghai, China, between May 1st and October 31st, 2010. The Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Greek National Tourism Organization, is coordinating Greece's presence at the Shanghai Library over the period August 27 - September 4 in a show including cultural institutions; among the latter, PIOP will hold a central place in the flow of visitors to the exhibition.

PIOP's participation in the show is centred on highlighting Modern Greek technological culture and promoting cultural tourism and agro-tourism through the Network of thematic technological museums it runs in the Greek provinces. Images of Greek Nature, production in Greece, agricultural and pre-industrial techniques and the corresponding Greek products, as well as related artefacts from the museum collections formed by the Foundation, will be presented to the international public of a major tourism exhibition, simultaneously familiarizing it with the culture that Greeks developed around their production. A preeminent place in this presentation is occupied by the production of olive oil and gum mastic, two products with a high penetration in international markets, but especially of high import in Greek culture for long periods of the country's history.
