The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), in the framework of the Anniversary Activities by Piraeus Bank for the bicentennial of the 1821 Revolution, presents the temporary exhibition "History on Embroidery" in the Silversmithing Museum in Ioannina from Wednesday 13 October.

The exhibition, which initially travelled to PIOP’s Museum of Marble Crafts on Tinos, comprises twelve embroideries created by Stamatis Zannos, curator and designer of museum exhibitions. Selected coloured lithographs by French painter Louis Dupré (1789-1837), which were created shortly before the start of the Greek Revolution and depicted daily life in Greece at the time, inspired Zannos during the quarantine period. Using a traditional technique, that of embroidery, after lengthy and demanding work, he managed to bring us today the images and the people that Dupré met during his journey to Greece.

Explaining why he chose Dupré, Zannos says in the introduction to the exhibition: "I like his works, they paint a pretty picture of situations, almost idealizing them. Besides, I want to be soothed by art. I cannot stand aggressiveness through art. Perhaps this is my character. Although this doesn't mean that I reject anything else ― even more so here, where art functions in a way as 'therapy'." According to Zannos, visitors will find it worth viewing the exhibition as the attempt of a man to stand on his own feet through a particular way of expression, and they might leave in good spirits, thinking that this is also another way of facing difficulties.

Duration of the exhibition: 13 October 2021-16 January 2022
Opening hours: Daily, except Tuesday, 10:00-18:00 until 15/10 and 10:00-17:00 from 16/10
