"The Silver Belt" - Temporary exhibition from PIOP

"The Silver Belt" - Temporary exhibition from PIOP
2.4.2024
31.5.2024

On the occasion of the International Children's Book Day, the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) organises, starting from Tuesday 2 April 2024, the temporary exhibition titled "The Silver Belt" in the Foundation building in Tavros.

The exhibition presents the paintings created by Maria Bacha to illustrate the children's book of the same name by Charis Mega, published by PIOP (2019) and related to the art of silversmithing and the Foundation's Silversmithing Museum in Ioannina. The temporary exhibition started its journey from the Silversmithing Museum and continued at the Environment Museum of Stymphalia.

Painter-illustrator Maria Bacha depicts the author's story with sensitivity, creating a visual universe with elements of fairy tales as well as plausibility. How is the art of silversmithing related to the city of Ioannina? How did silversmithing creations from Ioannina become famous all over the world? How did this art take root in the daily life of the people here, contributing to the formation of the city's cultural identity? The text by Charis Mega interacts harmoniously with the images, which are painted with tempera, pencils and inks.

Duration of the exhibition: 2 April to 31 May 2024
Operating hours: Monday-Friday 10:00-20:00
Closed: public holidays
