“The silver belt” Temporary exhibition in the Silversmithing Museum
11.5.2022
18.9.2022

The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) organizes the temporary exhibition titled “The silver belt” starting Wednesday 11 May in the Silversmithing Museum in Ioannina. The exhibition presents the paintings by Maria Bacha for the illustration of the children’s book with the same title by Charis Mega, which is published by PIOP.

Painter-illustrator M. Bacha depicts the story and the fairy-tale world of the writer with special sensitivity and creates a visual environment with elements that are sometimes “dreamlike” and sometimes realistic, connecting the visual material of the paintings with the exhibits in the Silversmithing Museum. How is the art of silversmithing related to the city of Ioannina? How did silversmithing creations from Ioannina became famous all over the world? How did this art take roots in the daily life of the people in this city, influencing their social and economic standing as well as the cultural identity of Ioannina? The author’s text enters a harmonious dialogue with the images that reflect the imagination of the artist, who worked with tempera, pencils and inks.

The book was included in the Short List for the State Children’s Book Awards 2020 in Greece.
