Παραδοσιακές βελονιές από τη συλλογή του Θεάτρου "Δόρα Στράτου" [Traditional needlework from the «Dora Stratou» Greek Dance Theatre collection]

The fruit of the author’s long experience and occupation with embroidery, this book constitutes a systematic recording of the numerous traditional needlepoint stitches, so that these might be preserved. The volume’s imaginative yet practical structure not only corresponds to a high aesthetic criterion, but also to its usability even by those with no experience in the art of traditional stitches and needlework. A total of 128 stitches are presented in (Greek) alphabetical order; the description of each stitch is accompanied by a step-by-step diagram showing its evolution from the initial to the end visual result, as well as by colour plates of the whole embroidered piece and of the details of the stitch being used. The volume’s Appendix presents a multitude of similar and secondary practical techniques for making necklaces, cords, lacework and its joining, girdles, tassels, braids, golden threads, etc. Tips on how to look after, upkeep and clean embroidered fabrics complete the book.
