The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation presents the solo exhibition by Argiris Rallias titled “Litany” in the Museum of Marble Crafts in Pyrgos on Tinos.
The exhibition, curated by Christoforos Marinos, takes place in a venue dedicated to marble craftsmanship on Tinos and the connection of this precious material to labour, worship, community and everyday life. In Pyrgos, a land with a strong tradition in the art of marble, Rallias's sculpture meets the long history of local craftsmen, merging technical knowledge with creation. The exhibition's title alludes to the litany as the movement of a community around something that transcends it. In Rallias's work, this community includes people, animals, the dead, the relatives, objects and the landscape itself. Each sculpture carries a plea, a loss, a small request for protection.
“Litany” speaks of the unsullied faith of the common folk, of slowness and of the rhythm of memory. The works in the exhibition suggest a different timeframe for viewing and existing against the frantic and exhausting rhythm of modern life.
They ask visitors to slow down, to draw closer to the material, to acknowledge the weight of things and to appreciate what life gives us and what it leaves behind.
Rallias's sculpture is inspired by the rural and island life on the Cyclades, from personal memories, family stories, local beliefs and practices of manual labour. His forms often have a dual character: they are rough and tender, experiential and ironic, vulnerable and paradoxically resilient. In his sculpture, matter becomes a vessel for memory and lived experience. At the same time, he refers to the Cycladic landscape, which is changing at a speed that distorts its measure and its scale. The images of Kythnos during the time of his childhood and those of Tinos during his student years, together with stories from his family members and his own memories, nourish a sculptural practice informed by social conscience. Behind his sculptural imagery lies an anxiety for a world losing its balance.
Rallias knows Pyrgos and Tinos well. In 2014, he graduated with honours from the School of Fine Arts at Panormos, Tinos, at which time he took part in a group exhibition in the Museum of Marble Crafts, before continuing his studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2014–2019). In 2026, he collaborated with the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation on the sculpture workshop "From Romania to Pyrgos on Tinos" dedicated to Evryviadis Lambaditis. His new presence in the Museum of Marble Crafts underscores his long-standing relationship with marble, the technique and practice of sculpting.
Argiris Rallias was born in 1993. He is a visual artist whose primary field is sculpture. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Panormos, Tinos (2014), continued his studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2014–2019) and completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, Italy (2023). His work has been presented in museums, exhibition venues and events in Greece and abroad. His first solo exhibition titled "Gioco di Guerra" took place in Carrara. In 2025, he presented the solo exhibition "Time and Tide wait for no man" at his studio in Petralona, curated by Christoforos Marinos.
