The Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, the Municipality of Sparti and the Friends of Music Society organise the itinerant exhibition titled “Mikis Theodorakis, memory in the digital age" in the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparti. The exhibition will open on Friday 13 March 2026 at 19:00.

Honouring the memory and work of a creator who left an indelible mark on modern Greek culture, the exhibition contributes to preserving collective memory by building bridges between the younger generations and the past. In parallel, it offers the city’s residents and its visitors the opportunity to discover the multifaceted artistic journey of Mikis Theodorakis through rare archival material.
The exhibition brings together for the first time all the digital tools developed by the Society and the “Lilian Voudouri” Music Library, aiming to make the work of Mikis Theodorakis accessible to everyone. Visitors can explore three thematic pavilions and discover the life and work of the composer using contemporary interactive technologies.
The pavilion titled “A Galaxy of Music and Action” presents the major retrospective exhibition “Mikis Theodorakis: My Galaxy” hosted at the Athens Concert Hall (2021, 2025) in digital and interactive form. The experience is enhanced with virtual reality glasses, through which visitors can explore both the exhibition itself and a digital reconstruction of the composer’s residence in Zatouna during his exile.
The pavilion titled “For Children, Young and Old” presents a panorama of photographic portraits by the composer from his own Archive — many of which are presented for the first time — along with digital interactive games that connect archival documents with moments from his life and work.
The pavilion titled “Mikis and the Great Poets” is dedicated to poetry set to music, one of the composer’s most important legacies. Here, new material from the Mikis Theodorakis Archive is presented for the first time, specially curated for the exhibition, offering visitors a vivid auditory experience within the space.
The exhibition started its journey from the Centre of Mediterranean Architecture in Chania in 2025, on the occasion of the centenary of the composer’s birth, as an initiative by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Friends of Music Society, since Mikis Theodorakis had entrusted his Archive at the Society’s Music Library in 1997.
The exhibition is curated by architect-museologist Erato Koutsoudaki, with scientific supervision by musicologist Valia Vraka, Head of the Greek Music Department at the Music Library.
After Sparti, the itinerant exhibition will continue its journey in the Museum of Industrial Olive-Oil Production of Lesvos.
